More Than Music: How One Teacher Helped Kids Believe in Themselves
Quick Summary
For years, one teacher has helped students discover talents they never knew they had.

The gym at Oakcrest Elementary in West Jordan was filled with loud cheers, smiling faces and students jumping to their feet—all for one person—music teacher Scott Knight.
That kind of reaction doesn’t happen by accident. For the past five years, Knight has poured his heart into the after school music program, turning it into a place where kids can feel safe, supported and proud of who they are. What starts as rehearsals quickly becomes something bigger—a space where confidence grows and friendships form.
Parents say the change they see in their children is incredible. Some students discover talents they didn’t know they had. Others find their voices for the very first time. For many kids, the stage becomes a place where they really feel seen.
The Fox 13 Dream Team and Mountain America honored Scott with special gifts and a $1,500 donation to help keep the program growing. Even in the middle of the celebration, Scott made it clear that the real reward is watching his students gain confidence and discover who they are becoming. And judging by the joy filling that gym, his students feel the same way.
