Additionally, members who are age 60 and older, perform 20+ card transactions (debit and/or credit), or maintain an average daily balance of $10,000 in MyStyle Checking will also have the fee waived automatically.

What do I need to open a student checking account?
To open a student checking account, you will need a valid ID, Social Security number, student verification, address verification and a parent or guardian (if younger than 18 years old). While some institutions also require an opening deposit amount, Mountain America doesn’t require a minimum balance to open a student checking account.
Can I open a student checking account online?
Yes, you can open a student checking account online. You can also come into your local Mountain America branch or call the service center at 1-800-748-4302 to open a student checking account.
Are your student checking accounts free?
Yes. If you are a student age 24 or younger, you don’t have to pay a monthly fee. This means you’ll have a free student checking account that has the same benefits as our other member checking accounts including extensive rewards and free mobile and online banking.
What happens to my student checking account once I’m no longer a student?
Once you are no longer in school, you can easily convert the account to MyFree® Checking or keep the MyStyle Checking account. If you decide to continue with MyStyle Checking, you'll want to become familiar with the monthly maintenance fee requirement and waiver options when you turn 25.
What is the difference between student checking and MyStyle Checking?
Mountain America does not have a checking account specifically for students. Generally, we recommend MyStyle Checking since many students automatically qualify for the monthly maintenance fee waiver due to their age. Students may also open a MyFree Checking account.
