This past holiday season looked very different for Jonathan Diaz. After unexpectedly losing his mother in April, Jonathan stepped up in a big way—raising his 13-year-old sister, Jayleen, while working long shifts to keep their family afloat.

Jonathan’s mother, Emma, was the heart and provider of the family, and her passing left a huge void. But Jonathan kept his promise to her—to take care of my little sister, her "little girl."

To help make the season brighter, the FOX 13 Dream Team, powered by Mountain America Credit Union with support from Master AutoTech, stepped in. Good Day Utah’s John Franchi and Mountain America’s Sharlene Wells surprised Jonathan and Jayleen with a holiday gift basket, Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth gear, a Walmart gift card and $1,000 to help ease the burden.

Jonathan grew emotional as he reflected on the difficult months since April. “It still doesn’t feel real,” he said. “But I know my mom would want us to stay positive and keep moving forward.”
