House of Jade: Telling Your Story Through Design | Guiding You Forward
Your home should tell your story. House of Jade founders Kirsten Krason and Erin Morgan share how they create spaces that reflect where clients have lived, traveled and what they love to do. Learn how to incorporate meaningful details from your own adventures into your design, discover ways to identify and express your personal style and find out why the small touches—from molding details to mixing metals—are what make a space feel rich, curated and truly yours.
When it comes to design, are the rules carved in stone or written in pencil? Should form always come before function? How do you make your space look more intentional? We invited Kirsten Krason and Erin Morgan, the designing duo behind House of Jade, to continue the conversation on this episode of Mountain America Credit UnionMountain America Credit Union’s Guiding You Forward podcast.
In this episode, you’ll discover:
- Why the best design sometimes requires ditching traditional rules.
- How the team helps clients define their style.
Where they draw inspiration from when designing a new space.
Kirsten and Erin are trailblazers. They started their company because they loved design. It’s become the powerhouse it is today because they understand that their job isn’t to impose a set of predetermined rules, but to listen carefully to each client’s lifestyle preferences and practical needs. Take the adage that you shouldn’t mix the metal finishes in your home. “I think it’s actually the opposite,” Kirsten explains. “We feel like mixing metals makes a home feel more well designed, more curated and more storied.”
When it comes to defining their style, clients sometimes struggle to articulate what they truly like. They know they want a beautiful space and they want it to work for their family, but they can’t put it into words. Is it traditional or transitional? Contemporary or modern? What’s the difference? Erin and Kirsten help clients discover their aesthetic through conversation, mood boards and by asking the right questions about how they actually want to live in their space.
Like for so many of us, travel is a huge inspiration for Kirsten and Erin’s current design obsessions. From color combos to luxurious finishes, they bring the feeling of their adventures home and incorporate these elements into their own spaces—as well as those of their clients. “It’s the small details. It’s creating the story.” Erin says. “Where have these owners lived? Where have they traveled? What do they love to do? I think creating the story in all your spaces is how you make it feel rich, curated and cozy. Adding little nods to the details you loved from your travels is a great way to do that.”
