In a digital space that is often dominated by criticism and complaints, one creator’s approach offers something different to Utah’s food community. Chase—who goes by SLCFoodie online, (and not to be confused with our illustrious podcast host, Chase Christensen)—joins us on the Mountain America Credit Union Guiding You Forward podcast to discuss all things dining out. In this episode, we take a unique look at the Salt Lake area food scene and how one man’s passion has influenced a whole community.
In this episode you’ll learn:
- Chase’s four pillars that can elevate a restaurant.
- Why Chase only focuses on the positive in his reviews.
- How social media helped a simple food journal grow into a must-see dining guide.
Chase built his restaurant review approach on what he calls the four pillars—great food, great atmosphere, great drinks and great people (service). Restaurants don’t necessarily need to excel in all four pillars to succeed, but standout performance in multiple areas usually gets a recommendation from Chase. These elements can turn a so-so dining experience into a stellar one, where customers can’t stop talking about their visit and keep coming back again and again. Watch the full video above to discover some restaurants Chase says are doing it right.
Chase’s social media journey was a slow burn. He started with food photography in 2012 just to create a food journal for himself. “Yeah, that was all the way back to Myspace,” he laughs. He soon moved to Facebook and then, when Instagram took off, it became the perfect platform to catalog his dining explorations and share them with a growing audience. It took about six years before restaurants began reaching out to him directly, recognizing the value of his reviews. He shares how grateful he is for the community’s response to his content and for the opportunity to share his passion for food. “I’m not trying to influence anyone,” he clarifies. “Here’s what it is. If you like it, go. If you don’t, that’s okay.”
Sharing only positive reviews of dishes and restaurants that he likes is part of the SLCFoodie brand. Chase is more interested in bringing the dining experiences he enjoys to as many people as possible. By focusing on restaurants and dishes he loves, he’s become a trusted voice for those looking for their next food adventure.
There’s enough negativity out there in the world, and sometimes we just need someone to point us in the direction of deliciousness. Watch the full episode for more recommendations and insights into what’s good to eat in the Salt Lake City area and beyond.
