Important Notice of ACH Rule Changes
On September 18, 2015, the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) revised the return rates for debit ACH items. The following new limits are effective immediately:
- Unauthorized returns rate reduced to 0.5% (previously 1%)
- Returns for R02—Account Closed, R03—No Account/Unable to Locate Account and R04—Invalid Account Number Structure reduced to 3%
- All other return types increased to 15% (previously 10%)
If you exceed these return limits for two consecutive months, you may have your ability to initiate ACH originations terminated or suspended. Please take care to ensure that you are correctly inputting account numbers and requiring the necessary authorizations to avoid these returns.
