How to sign up for online bill pay
- Open a checking account with a bank or credit union.
- Log in to the online account service of the financial institution.
- Under the bill pay tab, enter the person or company to pay.
- To create an active payee, the system will request the account number and payment address.
Once the information is saved in the bank’s system, payments can be sent by entering the payment amount and date when the money will be received. Billing information can be added or updated as needed. The bank or credit union will send the required payment, which the payee receives within 1–2 days. In certain cases, they may also print and mail paper checks if certain payees do not accept electronic payments.

How does online bill pay work?
Online bill pay is a service available through a financial institution that sends electronic payments from a member’s checking account to a payee. Most banks and credit unions offer online bill pay services upon opening a checking account. The service lets the member view and pay an unrestricted amount of bills for up to one year in advance of their due date. A member can also set up recurring payments for bills paid on a regular basis.
How long does it take a payment to get to a company through bill pay?
When you schedule a payment, the estimated delivery date is noted on the screen for you. Electronic payments usually take no more than 2-5 business days. If the payment is sent by check, it will take between 7-10 business days.
