ID Protection

Identity theft can happen to anyone at any time, so don't let yourself be lulled into a false sense of security. You can take a few basic precautions to make sure you don't fall victim to a scam.

  • Check over your shoulder. It may sound paranoid, but when you're at an ATM or a checkout line, look around and make sure no one is watching when you enter your PIN.
  • Play the memory game. It can be tough keeping track of all your PINs and passwords but writing them down isn’t the answer. Instead, commit them to memory.
  • Keep it to yourself. Some scam artists will call and ask for your information. Never give out your Social Security number over the phone or by email.
  • Have someone in your corner. Mountain America offers services that can help prevent others from using your identity for fraudulent purposes, and we can help restore your good name if your identity has already been compromised.
