Utah Business Magazine Names Mountain America Credit Union One of the Best Companies to Work For
Awards based on employee responses to anonymous surveys rating flexibility, pay equity, vacation time and company leadership
On Dec. 8, 2022, Utah Business magazine named Mountain America Credit Union one of the Best Companies to Work For in the large company category. The award, based on voting from employees who responded to anonymous surveys, ranks a number of factors including flexibility, pay equity, vacation time, management and more.
“We’ve achieved a high level of success this year and this award is especially satisfying as it reflects direct feedback from our employees,” said Sterling Nielsen, president and CEO of Mountain America Credit Union. “We believe each team member plays an important part in creating extraordinary member and team experiences, and we are committed to investing in our people for the long haul, providing training and listening to what they are telling us.”
Mountain America has invested significant resources into developing its people. Since January 2022, 97% of leaders have completed intensive leadership training. This training includes informal mentoring, job shadowing and cross-training, attendance at leadership workshops, and other formal leadership education opportunities. Outside of the organization, Mountain America’s leaders support volunteer organizations to improve their leadership skills.
At Mountain America, team members’ ongoing progress is measured against their goals through regular one-on-ones and quarterly check-ins between leaders and their team members. During these meetings, leaders provide clear feedback and frequent coaching to their teams.
The credit union recognizes employees through a variety of recognition programs like Top of the Mountain, which awards excellence within sales and member service, and an organization-wide High 5 program, which allows leaders and peers to send notes of appreciation and employer-funded Amazon Bucks to each other.
Over the past year, Mountain America has had plenty to celebrate. The credit union garnered several accolades including three of Money.com’s Best Banks and Credit Unions of 2022-2023 awards, specifically: Best Credit Unions for the Best High Yield Money Market; Best Banks and Credit Unions for Students for Best Perks; and Best Banks and Credit Unions for Seniors for Best Rewards Checking. Additionally, Utah Business Magazine named Service Center Assistant Manager Trevor Gordon one of the top twenty business professionals in Utah in their twenties. Mountain America’s Cairns Café received a Green Business Award and the Salt Lake Chamber selected Mountain America as winner of the Beehive award for its contributions to the community. The Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative awarded the credit union with the Ethical Leadership Award for operating with the highest integrity and named Sterling Nielsen, president and CEO, to the Credit Union Executive Society Hall of Fame.
