Piper & Scoot-Celebrating Women at Every Stage of Life | My Member Story

Like many people who are into fashion, Kylee Middleton is a self-prescribed clothes horse. She follows the trends and loves to challenge herself to style amazing looks.

Eight years ago, soon after Kylee married her best friend, Nate, she started Piper & Scoot. The company moniker reflects the names they planned to call their future children—Scoot is short for Scooter. At first, they sold Kylee’s used clothes on Instagram—she would model the pieces, taking photos and making short videos from their small studio apartment.

Building Piper & Scoot

Over the years, the small, home-based company developed into four brick-and-mortar locations with a robust online shop. How did they do it? With a philosophy they felt was hard to find in the existing fashion landscape—celebrating women at all stages of life.

Kylee and Nate have built a community of confident, fashionable women. They are sensitive to the fact that women’s bodies go through many changes during the course of a lifetime, especially during maternity and motherhood. Their mission is to help women find the perfect outfit so they can confidently enjoy the important moments in life instead of worrying about what they are wearing.

Why customers choose Piper & Scoot

There certainly is no shortage of clothing stores and online boutiques. What makes people choose Piper & Scoot again and again? The magic lies in the same humble beginnings that started in the newlyweds’ first apartment—thoughtful try-on videos with each new release and sincere styling advice for different body types. Piper & Scoot knows how to help their customers put outfits together.

Going the extra mile to give their customers added confidence in their purchases is what Piper & Scoot is all about. Customers keep coming back because they know, whether they are shopping online or in store, they are getting more than just clothing—they also get education about how to highlight their body’s best features.

Finding a financial partner

Choosing the right financial institution is an important building block for growing a company. For Kylee and Nate, they were looking for a financial partner who would be quick to respond and consistent in the quality of their service and support. Luckily, they met Wayne Riggs, business services sales manager at Mountain America Credit Union.

“Wayne Riggs came into our office years ago to meet us and establish a relationship,” says Kylee. “From that moment on, we knew that Mountain America operated under a higher standard of customer service. At the time, we were having a tough time being a part of a large national bank where we didn’t have a direct point of contact. It was perfect timing!”

Weathering a difficult time

Of course, many businesses suffered during the pandemic. Thankfully, Piper & Scoot was one of the survivors. Nate and Kylee were approached by many financial institutions regarding a PPP loan to help their business weather the storm. After filling out an application with a different financial institution, Nate ended up speaking with Wayne on the phone. He explained how Mountain America had been working non-stop to fulfill PPP loans for their business members via an online application portal and approval process. As he had not heard back on their paper application, he decided to give Mountain America a try.

The PPP loan was approved and funded through Mountain America very quickly. As a matter of fact, when Nate called the other financial institution to cancel their application, he found out they hadn’t even had a chance to manually review it yet!

Moving forward

Once Nate and Kylee made it through the PPP process with Mountain America and the pandemic began slowing down, they decided to move the rest of their business and personal accounts over. They knew it wasn’t going to be painless—after all, they would have to set up several new direct deposits and bill pay orders.

Mountain America made it a surprisingly easy and stress-free process. Nate says, “Looking back on it now, I wish we had done it sooner!”

Life outside of Piper & Scoot

Nate and Kylee have three children under the age of six that keep them just as busy as the business does. They love to travel whenever they can. Nate enjoys real estate, good food, everything NBA and embarrassing his kids any chance he gets! Kylee loves being outside, gardening, reading and being on a beach.

Since the business came before the kids, you may be wondering if their plan came true—did they name their kids Piper and/or Scoot? Well, their oldest is a beautiful girl who is indeed named Piper. When their next baby was born, they just couldn’t muster the courage to name him Scooter! Instead, their two wonderful boys are named Lennon and Ronnie.

Mountain America couldn’t be prouder to work with a company like Piper & Scoot. Thank you for letting us help make your financial dreams come true! By the way, Wayne says you can call him Scooter if you want. LOL!
