Tomorrow begins the National Day of Unplugging. More than just a reminder to take back stolen bits of time, this nationwide movement encourages a 24-hour respite from technology to reconnect with ourselves and others.

Make plans to be far away from your devices (that includes your television and your computer, too) from sundown tomorrow (Friday, March 9) through sundown on Saturday (March 10). Re-engage your mind, body and soul by getting outside, playing actual board games with family and friends or brunching—all without your cell phone or tablet within reaching distance.

Mountain America Credit Union is behind this idea 100%. As a matter of fact, we invite you to come in to the branch to do your banking—we’d love to see your face! To make it easier to find something non-tech-y to do, we’ve gathered a few ideas below:

Skinny Tire Festival, March 10–13—Moab, UT
Ostrich Festival, March 9–11—Chandler, AZ
Cotopaxi Questival, March 9–10—Las Vegas, NV
Rio Grande Arts & Crafts Festival, March 9–10—Albuquerque, NM

Rex Lee Run for a Cure, March 10—Provo, UT
Sand Hollow Marathon, March 10—Hurricane, UT
Phoenix Zoo Move & Groove, March 10—Phoenix, AZ
Pup Run, March 10—Las Vegas, NV
St. Paddy Day Half K, March 10—Boise, ID

TEDx: Totality, March 10—Idaho Falls, ID

If these options don’t appeal to you, try doing something you haven’t done in a while—maybe since you were a little kid! Reconnect with friends and family and make it a group activity.

  • Bike to the corner market for some candy or to the nearest bookstore for a new book.

  • Play board games.

  • Do something crafty—like making a spring wreath for your front door.

  • Head over to the park and practice your golf swing—turn that pitching wedge into your best friend instead of your arch-nemesis.

  • Lead a morning yoga class.

Whatever you choose, in addition to unplugging, make sure that you’re present, inspired and open to whatever the day brings. It’s going to be great!
