Mountain America is a federally-chartered credit union, regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the federal government. Savings are federally insured to at least $250,000 per account and are backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government.
Our History
Formed in 1934, Mountain America was originally the Salt Lake Telephone Employees Credit Union. However, after merging with Postal Workers Credit Union in 1984, the credit union changed its name to Mountain America to better reflect the diversity of our membership. In 1988, Mountain America merged with Utah State Credit Union, becoming the second largest credit union in Utah and setting our course as a modern, full-service financial institution.
Today, our extensive network of branches and ATMs spans much of the Intermountain West, including Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. We also belong to an extensive shared branching network as well as several ATM networks, including the CO-OP Network,which allows members to complete surcharge-free transactions at more than 25,000 ATMs nationwide.

Our purpose is to help members enjoy a good life by providing them a positive incentive to save and manage their finances. We also give members easy access to their accounts and allow them to control their funds in a variety of ways, including ATMs, online home banking, mobile banking, direct deposit, Touch-Tone Teller, automatic payment options and access through a large branch network. When making decisions, we always put members' needs first. It's just the way we do business and a part of the "people helping people" philosophy of credit unions.
